FAQ
What is the Virya Energy Policy Brief?
A library of 127 one-page briefs on the energy policies that move power markets. Each brief covers the problem the policy attacks, its mechanism, the market effect and key numbers, who gains and who pays, where it stands on the way to binding law, and a link to the official text.
Which countries does it cover?
22 countries and the EU: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, New Zealand, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union. Counting the EU’s 27 member states one by one gives 49 countries.
How do I know how close a policy is to becoming law?
Every brief is placed on its own jurisdiction’s stage ladder, the steps a policy passes through from proposal to binding law. There are 64 ladders, so a bill in one country and a regulation in another can be compared on the same footing.
